Meet The Team
Launa Cornell brings with her more than 25 years’ experience in the senior care industry. She has served in various roles including director of Health, regional director of Operations and nurse consultant; but Launa’s favorite role is serving as our executive director. She is passionate about working with seniors and strives to ensure La Marea Senior Living is a place our residents are proud to call home.
In her free time, she enjoys spending time outdoors, especially the beach. Launa has three children and a mini-Schnauzer.
Director of Sales and Marketing
Gaby Alvarado brings 17 years of senior living experience to La Marea Senior Living. She started in the industry working as a concierge, then transitioned over to Sales and Marketing and has stayed ever since. Gaby is compassionate, loves the seniors she works with and finds joy in helping others.
Gaby was raised in San Diego, California, and has been married to her husband for five years. When not playing with her four cats, she loves wine tasting, traveling and cheering for the LA Dodgers.
Director of Sales and Marketing
Sylvia Spears joins our team at La Marea Senior Living with more than 20 years’ experience in the senior living industry. She has previously served as an executive director for both an assisted living community and nonprofit organization and as our former business office director. She is passionate about creating and supporting a culture where our residents and staff feel appreciated.
Sylvia has been married for more than 20 years and has four beautiful children. When she’s not working, Sylvia volunteers for a dog rescue … and you guessed it, the rescue is for senior dogs!
Anthony Bawalan, LVN
Resident Care Director
Anthony Bawalan, Resident Care director at La Marea Senior Living, has more than 16 years’ experience in the senior living industry. He has served in a variety of roles, including caregiver and medical technician in both dementia and assisted living settings before obtaining his Licensed Vocational Nurse certification nearly a decade ago. Anthony has a great passion for senior care and loves sharing his experiences with our team to help foster a culture of care in our community.
Outside of work, Anthony loves spending time with his wife and their two children, Alexa and Cody. He also plays basketball in his spare time.
Culinary Services Director
Mark Cronkhite has worked in senior living for the last 20 years. He began his culinary career in a pizza restaurant at 15 and quickly found that he loved interacting with the senior customers. He began working in senior living as a server and worked his way up to cook, all while attending culinary school. Mark graduated from the Art Institute at San Diego in 2009 with an A.S. degree in culinary arts.
Mark is passionate about cooking and finds his joy serving others through food. He loves drawing inspiration from the residents and local community and creating his menus around those focal points. He looks forward to creating lasting memories for residents and families at La Marea.
Mark was born and raised in San Diego and now calls it home with his wife and baby girl. He enjoys golfing, hiking, skateboarding and exploring local breweries in his free time.
Generations Program Director
Javier Gomez has been working in the senior living space for 13 years. He started as a server before transitioning into a caregiver role and then a medication tech. While he has spent time in both assisted living and memory care, he discovered his true passion of serving those with memory impairments while caring for a family member with dementia. Javier is a licensed EMT in the state of California and is excited to work in the Generations community.
Outside of work, Javier enjoys spending time with his kids, exploring San Diego and cheering on the Raiders.
Vibrant Life® Director
Lauren Peterson joins La Marea Senior Living as our Vibrant Life® director, bringing with her four years of senior living experience. She began her career as a caregiver in assisted living and transitioned into activities. Lauren has worked in assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing and has a true passion for serving our residents and their families by facilitating and providing exciting and memorable experiences within the activity department. Lauren has her master’s degree in health care administration and recently received the Activity Leadership Certificate to further her education in this field.
Outside of work, Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband and two puppies. She loves to be around her family and friends and will jump on any opportunity to go spend time at the beach. Lauren is passionate about health and fitness and runs online accountability groups in her spare time to help and encourage others. She loves to have fun and is always up to hear a good pun. Building Services Director
Sebastian Diaz joins us as Building Services director at La Marea Senior Living with more than 11 years’ experience in this role. He began his career as a janitor and quickly moved up the ranks to director. Sebastian has previously opened a senior living community as a maintenance supervisor, but he has always wanted to open a community as a director. His passion for serving seniors led him to La Marea.
Sebastian has been married for 11 years and has a 4-year-old daughter, Clarissa, and 2-year-old son, Mateo. When Sebastian is not working, he’s with his family either going on adventures, hiking or watching baseball games.
